Warnings and Precautions

Liver function should be assessed as clinically appropriate before and during treatment, particularly if symptoms of liver injury develop.
Rosuvastatin can cause muscle-related adverse effects ranging from myalgia to rare but serious myopathy and rhabdomyolysis. Seek medical attention for unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, weakness, or dark-colored urine.
The risk of muscle toxicity may be increased with the 20mg dose in patients with renal impairment, hypothyroidism, advanced age, certain interacting medicines, or a history of statin-related muscle problems.
Use with caution in patients with significant kidney impairment, liver disease, or heavy alcohol consumption.
Rosuvastatin may cause small increases in blood glucose and may contribute to new-onset diabetes in susceptible patients; blood glucose monitoring may be appropriate.
Clinically important interactions may occur with medicines such as ciclosporin, certain antiviral agents, gemfibrozil and other fibrates, warfarin, and some other lipid-lowering medicines.
Antacids containing aluminum or magnesium may reduce rosuvastatin exposure when taken at the same time; follow product-specific instructions regarding separation of doses.
